Pioneering policies and practices tackling educational inequalities in Europe (PIONEERED)

PIONEERED is a Research and Innovation Action Project of the Horizon 2020 Call Enhancing Access and Uptake of Education to Reverse Inequalities (Transformations-22-2020). PIONEERED aims to identify research-based policy frameworks and pioneering strategies and practices to reduce inequalities in access to formal and informal education.

On the one hand, it will examine the known causes of educational inequalities along the educational pathway from early childhood to tertiary education, and on the other hand, it will present strategies and practices for responding to inequalities from a cross-country comparative perspective. Based on these findings, the aim is to highlight the most promising tools in terms of path-breaking strategies and practices, which will be achieved through an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach that considers multiple levels, different intersectionalities and a course-of-life perspective.

Given its experience in educational research at the interface with education policy and its background of broad expertise in social inequalities and methodologies, ICER is involved in all work packages of the project. The main tasks are in the area of methodological-conceptual work and comparative data analysis of educational inequalities:

  • Lead of Work Package 2 (conceptual and methodological framework) and Lead of Task 2.1 (state of research report) and Task 2.2 (methodological guidelines)
  • Lead of Task 4.2 (consequences of school segregation on achievement and attainment)
